Soil Collection Experience

My soil collection experience was an interesting one for sure. My goal was to get outside and collect some of the more natural top soil samples because that would be interesting to know what kinds of bacteria are growing my own back yard and to see if the have any antibiotic properties that could be more useful for this experiment. Unfortunately the weather was not on my side. This time of year most of the ground is solid and frozen so its very difficult to get good soil samples. I wanted to try and wait to see if the ground would thaw out, but that was not the case. I was motivated and tried to go outside while it was snowing to try and collect samples in three different spots that I thought would be a good site for soil. The three places that I wanted to sample where my garden, around a bush, and some soil in the woods. I was persistent and tried my best to break through the solid ground with my shovel. I was not successful and had to give up in this process. I had to go inside and revert to one of the house plants for soil. I decided to sample some soil from a Canna lily plant that has been sitting in the house for a while and the soil looked older and not fresh out of the bag. It was either that or I was going to sample some soil that is in with a really old bamboo plant that has been in the house for over 10 years. That would've been interesting to investigate, but I really didn't trust the soil as it looked like it was store bought and came from a bag.
