New part of our immune system!

Researchers from Israel have found a new part of the immune system that potentially has antibiotics. This part of the body can send out bacteria killing chemicals and is known for recycling proteins, the proteasome. The main job for this tiny structure is cut up old proteins into smaller pieces to be reused to make new ones.

In multiple experiments the proteasome has been able to tell when the cell is infected by bacteria which causes it to change its current job function. Due to these tests this allows it to now transform the old proteins into weapons that allow it to cut the outer layer of the bacteria and destroy them. This would allow a new natural antibiotics which would protect us from bacterial infections.

Currently the method is being tested on mice with pneumonia and sepsis and the findings were similar to antibiotics already being used. The testing still needs to continue to new antibiotics needed to keep up with the demand due to many antibiotic resistance medications. Many researchers have found this exciting and ground breaking due to it is something we already have instead of digging soil and finding antibiotics.

This new realization with our immune system could help us against superbugs that have antibiotic resistance. It would be a great benefit to us to be able to not worrying about getting sick or die from a bacterial infection. As the researchers call "dumpster diving" through our bodies may need to be looked at more to find more antibiotics or benefit processes to assist us against harmful germs that are antibiotic resistant.
